About Dr. Arun Kumar Ponna

Dr. Arun Ponna is a dedicated Consultant Nephrologist at Yashoda Hospitals, Somajiguda, Hyderabad. He is driven by a singular motive – to make a difference in patients’ lives by enhancing kidney health. He firmly believes that through increased awareness and the sharing of valuable information, we can collectively improve outcomes for individuals with kidney diseases and related conditions.

He has worked as a fellow Physician at the Ottawa Hospital in Canada, which is renowned for having one of the largest kidney programs in the country. Working alongside a team of 22 Nephrologists and researchers, he was closely involved with a committed Hemodialysis and kidney transplant team. This team presently oversees more than 600 dialysis patients and around 1100 transplant patients. His involvement encompassed various aspects of kidney donation and transplantation, including living donors, deceased donors, and high-risk kidney transplantations. It was during this period that he developed a keen interest in treating patients with chronic kidney disease, addressing hypertension in kidney diseases, particularly challenging cases, and resistant hypertension. He is dedicated to providing his patients with enhanced, personalized treatment plans and support at every step of their journey.

His academic journey includes the completion of MBBS from Siddartha Medical College in Vijayawada, followed by his MD at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. Subsequently, he undertook his DM Nephrology training at Osmania Hospital in Hyderabad, 2019. He further pursued fellowships in kidney transplant and Dialysis, Critical Care Nephrology, and Renal Hypertension from Ottawa, Canada. Additionally, he holds certification as a certified hypertension specialist from the American Hypertension Society in the USA.
